Spurs take Hornets in Season Opener 99-95

Duncan leads team to victory

Time seems to have again stopped for the ageless PF from San Antonio.  Tim Duncan experienced another great season opener scoring 24 points on 10-15 shooting from the field.  He also raked in 11 rebounds and dished three assists while shooting 4-5 from the free throw line.

“Their (the Hornets) youth and athleticism made it difficult for us,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. “It’s a great group of guys, and it’s going to be a fun team to watch. If Timmy doesn’t do what he does, that’s a loss for us.”

Tony Parker chipped in 23 points and Kawhi Leonard (who had a spectacular 3rd quarter) added 19 points and was a perfect 4-4 from the line.

The Spurs take on the Oklahoma City Hornets in their home opener tonight at the AT&T Center. Be sure to get your tickets and welcome the Spurs to the 2012/13 NBA Season.

Manu listed as out for the start of the season against Hornets

Spurs Guard troubled with back spasms

When the San Antonio Spurs take the floor this Thursday for the 2012/13 Season Opener, they will be without Guard Manu Ginobili in the lineup.  Manu, who averaged 52.6% from the field last season will be missed.

The Spurs will have become accustomed to playing and winning without Ginobili and this season there is a plethora of guards waiting to play some minutes and get some experience.  Nando De Cola, Danny Green and  Kawhi Leonard along with Stephen Jackson will all be vying for those minutes which can only help the Spurs, one of the older statesmen of the league.

Be sure to get your Spurs tickets to the home opener Thursday November 1st against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Raptors big man idolizes Tim Duncan

Not surprising: Toronto center — or centre, as it were — Aaron Gray grew up idolizing Spurs great Tim Duncan.

Somewhat surprising: Duncan knew exactly who Gray was when the latter introduced himself to the former during his rookie season with Chicago during the 2007-08 season.

(Keep in mind that Gray, a second-round pick out of Pitt, had appeared in all of about 20 NBA games to this point, while Duncan was coming off his fourth championship.)

Gray explains:

I tried saying hello to him and he said, ‘What’s up, Aaron?’ I was kind of taken aback, just because he knew my name. It was a super cool experience.

On second thought, should we really be surprised that Duncan would know who Gray was? You can read at National Post.com.
