Spurs take first game of opening series

The San Antonio Spurs came out of Game One of the 2014 NBA Playoffs with a 90-85 victory behind veteran point guard Tony Parker’s 20 points and nine assists and Tim Duncan’s 10 rebounds.

The Mavericks came out of the gate sluggish but by the beginning of the fourth quarter had built a nice 10-point lead.  Then the Spurs woke up and went on a 19-4 run and held Dallas scoreless for more than seven minutes.   The normally steady Zach Randolph was hounded by the Spurs defense and was a dismal 1-8 in 28 minutes holding him well below his regular season average 19.7 PPG shooting better than 51%.

“It was just one of them nights,” Randolph said after the game. “I’ve been double-teamed the whole season. A lot of my shots were off. I didn’t get as good a look as I wanted to. It was just the rhythm of the game. I’ve got to be better, as I told my teammates. I’ve got to be better for them.”

For PG Tony Parker, this was the beginning of fulfillment of a promise he made to Tim Duncan after losing in game 7 of the 2013 NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat.

“I promised to him that we will go back, go back to The Finals and get an opportunity to win the whole thing,” Parker said in May. “I’m trying to do my best, trying to be aggressive every night, and I think everybody on the team, we really wanted to do it for him.”

Spurs ready themselves for Game three after routing Heat in Game two

The San Antonio Spurs will walk into the AT&T Center tonight knowing that they are only two games away from a fifth NBA Title and another humiliation of “the anointed one” LeBron James at the hands of the Spurs.

“My Cleveland team, we were very young, and we went up against a very experienced team, well-coached team. And they (the Spurs) took advantage of everything that we did.”

While the Heat “Big Three” of Wade, Bosch and James is a much more appealing than Llgauskas, Hughes and Gooden, the Wade and Bosch have done pretty much all they can to help secure a victory but  the “Anointed One” has not been on target.

“I’ll be better,” James said on Wednesday,  “I’ll be much better [Thursday] night.”  “So I’m putting all the pressure on my chest, on my shoulders to come through for our team. That’s the way it is.”

Game 4 begins at 8:00 Eastern  and tickets for the AT&T Center are still available.

Spurs drop one on the road, return to San Antonio even

The San Antonio Spurs had opportunity and the lead for most of Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi-finals of the NBA Playoffs this weekend.  Golden State, however, had other ideas on how this Mothers Day showdown would unravel.

“We put ourselves in a position to win the game and it’s frustrating because we feel like we gave it away,” PF Tim Duncan said.

The Spurs, who led the majority of the game, fell flat as the game slipped into overtime.  The Warriors were led by PG Stephen Curry who was working on a sprained ankle and was not even sure if he was going to play per Head Coach Mark Jackson.

“He said, ‘I’m going to give you what I got, coach,’ That’s not the language he speaks. I knew right away that he was not 100 percent,” said Jackson, “Once again, it’s that same spirit flowing through that locker room that refuses to quit.”

Game 4 is on Tuesday May 14th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. Tickets are still available!
