Jordan Crawford says he can be better than Michael Jordan – seriously

Maybe it was his while in college school that emboldened Jordan Crawford in a special way.

But on the , the Washington Wizards guard has some pretty lofty career aims. Namely, to be the greatest to ever play the game.

Crawford continued that line of thinking in a recent interview with the Washington Post, where he flatly predicted he will be the greatest player that has ever played the game — including Michael Jordan.

“I don’t tell nobody, but I feel like I can be better than Michael Jordan,” Crawford told the Post, with a straight face. “When I’m done playing, I don’t want people to say, Michael Jordan is the best player. I want that to be me. That’s how I am. That’s how I was built.”

Crawford was the 27th pick in the first round of last year’s draft by Atlanta. He was traded late in the season to the Wizards, where he averaged 16.3 points in 26 games last season.

His dunk over James created a firestorm when Nike tried to confiscate the tape. Thanks to You Tube and below, the tape has made itself into the public domain.

But pulling on Superman’s cape in the form of saying he will be better than Jordan is another thing.

I applaud him for dreaming big. But he better not hope that Jordan gets the comeback itch at the age of 48.

Because if he does, I bet I know the first place that “His Airness” will be looking to once he restarts his career.

Here’s the video of Crawford dunking over James way back when.

Amar’e not ready to go ‘native’ on Chinese trip

New York forward Amar’e Stoudemire has explored and enjoyed  most areas of Chinese culture during his recent trip to Chinese for a large multi-national shoe country famous for its swooshes.

Stoudemire has explored the Great Wall of China, ridden in a rickshaw and even at the Nike Festival of Sports.

Buton exploring all elements of China — namely Chinese street food.

Here’s how Stoudemire described it in a blog post at Amarestoudemire.com:

“Spent my last few days getting the local flavor of the people and culture of Beijing by visiting the Chinese Street Market. I was starving, but there was no way I was messing with these.  They deep fry them here.  I am going to have to pass!”

In particular, Stoudemire wanted nothing to do with the assortment of seahorses, silkworms and scorpions on a stick served up at various places in Beijing.

Something tells me that Stoudemire — like many tourists returning home after an overseas trip — couldn’t wait to savor a Big Mac and some fries as soon as he landed back home.

Nike planning to sell KD-inspired backpacks

Kevin Durant soon will become one of the most influential basketball players in the world — if he isn’t there already.

Nike is planning for that day, too. And they would like to see legions of his fans wearing Kevin Durant backpacks with straps buckled in the front – just like he wears at his post-game press conferences.

The Oklahoman reports that the mammoth shoe company as part of Durant’s KD III line.

Nike isn’t saying what the backpack will look like or its cost. Or even if it will have his initials or some neat swoosh-inspired logo — with his initials or not.

We already have a Kobe Bryant backpack that retails for $90.

But it’s not perceived as being that stylish. Heck, Bryant doesn’t even appear at his post-game press conference wearing one.

Durant, on the other hand, is different.

His appearance at the Thunder’s press conferences makes him look only a couple of long jump shots removed from the student who was wandering “The Drag” in Austin headed to English composition class when he briefly attended Texas only four years ago.

And as for what is in Durant’s backpack?

It’s not really that exciting, according to the Oklahoman.

It usually contains his bible, iPad, headphones, three phones and phone chargers.

“I’m a little lazy,” Durant said, “so I don’t like to carry all that stuff in my hands.”
