OKC takes Game 3 from Spurs

Serge Ibaka makes dramatic return

Spurs guard Tony Parker said it all along, “Serge will be back.”  Well Parker was right and with the return of Serge came a 97-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.

“I just knew he was going to play. I’m sure when they looked at the schedule they figured he had a chance to be back for Game 3. That’s why they didn’t bring him to San Antonio (for the first two games). I think it was planned from the beginning. And we’re going to have to be ready because we’re playing a very good team at home.”

Spurs dominate Thunder in Game 1

The San Antonio Spurs did exactly what they were supposed to do and hold home court in game one of the 2014 Western Conference Finals, a 105-122 blowout.  The Spurs exploited the absence of Serge Ibaka with 66 sizzling points in the paint.

“We always want to try to penetrate,” Parker said. “We always want our ball movement, that’s how we play — kick and pitch and stuff like that. You know, obviously it’s a little bit better with (Ibaka) not being in the paint, but we’re still going to try to penetrate and make stuff happen.”

For the Thunder,  missing Ibaka is the least of their worries.  Thunder Head Coach Scott Brooks is imploring that his team execute much better.

“We’re a no-excuse team,” Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. “Serge is out. He’s not coming back. We have to play better. We have to play better. If we expect to beat one of the best teams in basketball, and a very good offensive team, we have to play and we’re not going to make an excuse.”

Spurs ready for Thunder in Round Three

The San Antonio Spurs received some information about Oklahoma starting center Serge Ibaka’s injury over the weekend but for Guard Tony Parker, this may very well be misinformation.

“I don’t really believe it,” Parker told reporters Sunday. “I’ll believe when I see tomorrow he is not on the court. It’s hard to believe. We’ll see.”

The Spurs are back at full strength with Tony Parker back and ready for game one after a hamstring injury in round two.  Game One begins tonight at 8 p.m.  and the Spurs know that no matter who shows up to play, the game still needs to be played out and doesn’t what his team dwelling on what cannot be changed.

“It’s really a waste of time,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told the San Antonio Express-News. “When the game starts, everybody will know what’s going on, and everybody will adjust both ways.”
