Spurs fall to Pistons

The Defending NBA Champions have been through this before.  They know that, as the reigning NBA Champs, every team will come after them every night they play.  The Detroit Pistons were no different and managed to escape the confines of the AT&T Center with a 105-104 victory.  The way they did it is what is so surprising.

With the clock down to seven seconds and the Spurs’ Tim Duncan in-bounding the ball, what could go wrong.  Evidently everything.  An errant in bounds pass from Duncan landed into the hands of Brandon Jennings who then weaved his way through the backpedaling Spurs and drained an 11-ft jumper which sank the Spurs.

“We are getting better,” Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said. “If you stay in there, sometimes you get a break. We had a very good break at the end. We got lucky at the end. Our resolve to stay in the game right down to the last few seconds was huge.”

Spurs fans also saw the return of Point Guard Tony Parker, who missed the past five games due to a strained left hamstring, although Coach Popovich only allowed him to play 17 minutes.

“He wanted to play, but I’m being conservative,” coach Gregg Popovich said. “He had 13 minutes. That’s good after sitting out as long as he did; make sure he doesn’t re-injure the thing.”

The Spurs will have a little time to regroup as they take on the Phoenix Suns tomorrow night.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so get yours now and help cheer on your San Antonio Spurs!

Grizz leave no room for overtime; dump Spurs

The Memphis Grizzlies remember well the triple overtime game just a few games back.  Backed by a home crowd, the Grizzlies were fueled early on in the game with guard Mike Conelly scroing 16 points.  He would eventually finish with 30 points.

“That team has had our number for three or four years,” Conley said. “With or without their starters, they seem to always beat us. It’s a huge win for us at home and a huge statement. Hopefully, we can just continue building off of it.”

The Spurs do expect Point Guard Tony Parker to play tonight.  He did not play against the Grizzlies.

There is no rest for the defending champion Spurs as they overnight from Memphis back to San Antonio for a New Year’s Eve matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Spurs on verge of longest losing streak since 2011

Rajon Rondo was the big story of the night but it was Monte Ellis who ended up with the big night, scoring 38 points including 11 in the critical fourth quarter against the Spurs Saturday night.

“I felt it,” Ellis said of his late surge. “It’s in my blood. Those guys were tired from last night, and their defense let up, so we took advantage.”

Rondo, who was dealt from the Celtics in a multi-player deal Thursday dished out nine assists, collected seven rebounds and ended the night with six points on 3-11 shooting.

The Spurs, who are dealing with injuries, have now lost seven of their last eleven games and are close to a losing streak long left behind.  Point guard Tony Parker is still questionable and has been upgraded to “game time decision” while Kawhi Leonard is still out rehabbing a torn ligament in his right hand.  All this while the Los Angeles Clippers come calling.

“It’s not as bad as it sounds,” Leonard said before Saturday’s triple-overtime loss to Portland. “I should be back soon.”

Be sure to get your tickets now and help cheer on your Spurs over the Clippers!
