Spurs sweep season series from Mavericks

For the first time in 15 seasons, the San Antonio Spurs have taken a season series from their IH-10 rivals, the Dallas Mavericks.   Tim Duncan led the way with 28-points and 19 rebounds as the Spurs competed in their sixth straight game without MVP candidate PG Tony Parker.

The Spurs nearly lost an 8-point lead and held on as Vince Carter’s 3-pointer clanked off the rim.

“We’re going through a section of time here where we’re not playing the greatest of basketball,” Tim Duncan said. “Obviously, with Tony out of here, our offense is a little limited with the guys we have in there. But outside of that, we just don’t have a rhythm right now.”

The Spurs next face the 22-42 Cleveland Cavaliers this Saturday at the A T&T Center in San Antonio.

Spurs rocking the Rodeo Road Trip

Team has posted a 13-1 record in their last 14 games.

The San Antonio Spurs pounded the Chicago Bulls 103-89 en-route to their 2nd consecutive victory and four of their last five contests.  The more impressive thing about this victory is that they took out the Bulls without the Big 3 – Tim, Tony and Manu.

“One would hope that you could play with anybody in your system, but it was a tough challenge for them tonight,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “And I couldn’t be more proud of what they did.”

The team was sparked by Kawhi Leonard who led the team with a career high 26-points.  he was aided by Danny Green’s 18 points.

“The approach is still the same, you know, every game,” Green said. “It starts with Pop. He does a great job of preparing us, tells us what we need to do. We listen to him.”

The Spurs next face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Spurs off on their annual Rodeo Road Trip

The annual Rodeo Road trip for the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs commences tonight with a game in Memphis and ends 19-days later, on February 23rd with a game against the Denver Nuggets.

Before the Spurs had a chance to begin their now famous road trip, the entire franchise received a scare when F/C Tim Duncan went down against the Washington Wizards last night at the AT&T Center.  It was such a moment that even Wizards Head Coach Randy Wittman was concerned.

”That was scary when you see that,” Washington coach Randy Wittman said. ”Those are always the ones you don’t want to see when a guy falls into you while your feet are planted on the ground. I just talked to his doctors and they said he is going to be fine.”

Tony Parker spoke to reporters after the game.

“He’s fine, he’s fine,” Parker said. “It’s nothing big. I’m sure (coach Pop) is going to be very conscious about his knee and we’ll see.”

The Spurs will face Minnesota, Detroit, Brooklyn, Chicago, Cleveland, Sacramento, LA Clippers, Golden State, Phoenix and Denver.
