Spurs to face Lakers this Tuesday

The San Antonio Spurs will are facing a tough week with the surging, well sprouting LA Lakers Tuesday followed up by the seriously surging NY Knicks.

The Lakers are rolling into town with Bernie Bickerstaff as the interim head coach but the world already knows that Mike D’ Antoni has been hired on to replace him once D’ Antoni has fully recovered from  reconstructive knee surgery.

The Spurs (6-1) are coming off a Saturday night 112-109 victory over the Portland Trailblazers where Gary Neal came off the bench to score 27 points (20 in the second half) and the Spurs climbed out from under a 14-point deficit.  Duncan was his usual effective 22 points, nine rebounds self.

”He carried us on his back,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said about Neal. ”Sometimes a player will do that, and he picked a good time for it.”

The Lakers (3-4) are also coming off a victory over the Sacramento Kings 103-90 where Dwight Howard had 23 points and 18 rebounds and Kobe kicked in 20 points all before they knew that Mike D’Antoni was their new leader.

”My job is to coach the team until they ring the bell,” Bickerstaff said. ”But listen. What’s the reality here? I mean, we all know what’s going on and I understand that. But I consented to do this for the organization, and I’m not worried about the big picture.”

Spurs at the Lakers Tuesday night 10:30 pm Eastern Standard time.

Be sure to get your tickets to see the Spurs take on the Knicks at the AT&T Center Thursday night.

Spurs lose rough and tumble game against the LA Clippers

The San Antonio Spurs walked into the Staples Center looking to pick up their 5th consecutive victory of this early part of the season.  Possibly if it were the LA Lakers, that would have been possible, but they instead faced the winning LA team in the Clippers.

With the Clippers playing a form of street ball that the Spurs are unaccustomed to and the Spurs defense less than stellar while giving up 20 turnovers, the Clippers ran rough shod over the Silver and Black.

“We still remember what they did to us a couple months ago,” DeAndre Jordan said about the team that swept the Clippers out of the second round of the playoffs. “That was extra motivation.”

“They kicked our ass,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “They were more emotional, more aggressive, and it meant something to them for all the obvious reasons. We hung in there for a half, but after that I don’t think we played with the same intensity that they did, and it showed.”

The Spurs next home game is against the NY Knicks, November 15, 2012. Be sure to get your tickets and cheer on your San Antonio Spurs!

Spurs move up in rankings/Lakers tumble

If the San Antonio Spurs expect to keep under the radar as they do each and every season, they’d better stop posting what little records are left to post.

The team has begun the 2012/13 NBA season with a franchise record-setting 4-0 record.  It seems strange that the former 4 time NBA Champions have never gotten off to  such a start but fans here are just a tad spoiled when it comes to the Spurs.  In recognition of their record, the Spurs have moved up to 4th in the NBA Power Rankings this week.  The Spurs’ arch nemesis, the LA Lakers (1-3) have dropped to 10th place.

Popovich will tell you that records don’t matter and the only thing that matters is “Pounding The Rock.” But to fans of the much maligned Spurs, it’s just another reason to love the team
