Parker lilfts Spurs over Grizzlies and into the NBA Finals

The San Antonio Spurs have done what very few teams have done before.  The Spurs completed the sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals to advance to the NBA Finals for the fifth time in 14 seasons.  The Spurs last visit to the finals was in 2007 when they swept the Cleveland Cavaliers for their fourth title.

“Honestly, it feels like it’s been forever since we’ve been to this point,” PF Tim Duncan said Monday night after the Spurs victory. “We’ve been on the verge of kind of getting here. We still feel like we were in contention, but we can’t get over that hump. To get over that hump and get back in the Finals, it’s an amazing feeling, honestly.”

Point Guard Tony Parker scored a game high 37 points on 15-21 shooting and seemed most happy about the newest Spur to join the squad, Tracy McGrady and his quest to go to the NBA Finals.

“Tracy McGrady is going to the NBA Finals,” Parker said as he passed the former All-Star after the game.

Spurs drop one on the road, return to San Antonio even

The San Antonio Spurs had opportunity and the lead for most of Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi-finals of the NBA Playoffs this weekend.  Golden State, however, had other ideas on how this Mothers Day showdown would unravel.

“We put ourselves in a position to win the game and it’s frustrating because we feel like we gave it away,” PF Tim Duncan said.

The Spurs, who led the majority of the game, fell flat as the game slipped into overtime.  The Warriors were led by PG Stephen Curry who was working on a sprained ankle and was not even sure if he was going to play per Head Coach Mark Jackson.

“He said, ‘I’m going to give you what I got, coach,’ That’s not the language he speaks. I knew right away that he was not 100 percent,” said Jackson, “Once again, it’s that same spirit flowing through that locker room that refuses to quit.”

Game 4 is on Tuesday May 14th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. Tickets are still available!

Spurs to face off with Golden State in Quarterfinals

The Golden State Warriors pulled off a victory that almost didn’t happen.  Cruising into the fourth quarter with an 18-point lead, the Warriors took their eye off the ball to watch the clock.

“We were up 18, and I was celebrating, having a ball, and then it seems like two minutes later all of a sudden it’s a single-digit game and every possession mattered again,” center David Lee said.

This season, the Spurs split the series between the two clubs 2-2 but if history is a prelude to the upcoming series…anything can happen. Point 1: The last time these two clubs met in the playoffs was the first round of the 1991 playoffs where the 44-38 Warriors upset the 55-27 Spurs. Point 2: The Warriors have not won on a San Antonio floor since early 1997.
