Parker lilfts Spurs over Grizzlies and into the NBA Finals

The San Antonio Spurs have done what very few teams have done before.  The Spurs completed the sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals to advance to the NBA Finals for the fifth time in 14 seasons.  The Spurs last visit to the finals was in 2007 when they swept the Cleveland Cavaliers for their fourth title.

“Honestly, it feels like it’s been forever since we’ve been to this point,” PF Tim Duncan said Monday night after the Spurs victory. “We’ve been on the verge of kind of getting here. We still feel like we were in contention, but we can’t get over that hump. To get over that hump and get back in the Finals, it’s an amazing feeling, honestly.”

Point Guard Tony Parker scored a game high 37 points on 15-21 shooting and seemed most happy about the newest Spur to join the squad, Tracy McGrady and his quest to go to the NBA Finals.

“Tracy McGrady is going to the NBA Finals,” Parker said as he passed the former All-Star after the game.

Tickets for the NBA Finals are on sale now so be sure to get out and support your Spurs!

Spurs prepping for rough Game 3 in Memphis

PG Parker set for MRI before Tip off

When the San Antonio Spurs face off against the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday night don’t expect not to see PG Tony Parker there even though he is scheduled to have an MRI

“just to make sure,” Parker said.

To make sure that his healing from an injury that kept him from 100% late in the regular season.

The Spurs know that they will be playing in an hostile environment in which no playoff team has one in.

“We went on the road in every series and lost and have had to come back. We’re at home and we want to come out and play much more aggressive and confident, which teams normally do at home,” Head Coach Lionel Hollins said after practice on Thursday. “[But] as I’ve told our team, being at home isn’t going to win anything for us. We have to play much better”

Game 3 is Saturday May 25th at 9 PM

Spurs look to experience and the deepest bench in the NBA for the Western Conference Semi’s

The San Antonio Spurs can finally work off of one game plan and as of the final buzzer on the LA Clippers/Memphis Grizzlies set out to work at their practice facility on Sunday night.

Head Coach Vinny Del Negro knows exactly what his team is facing come Tuesday night at the A T&T Center.

“Different type of team, different type of series,”  Del Negro said during the  Clippers’ postgame interviews. “San Antonio has played as well, if not the most consistently, of anybody throughout the year. They’ve won championships for a reason. They’re not going to beat themselves.”

And they won’t.  Sure there will be those folks out there that say so much time off will only hurt their game and there is something to that but this is a team that strongly remembers their exit from last year’s playoffs and rest assured they will not let it happen again. Plus, the Clippers struggled against a Memphis squad with no stars.  To the Clippers, the Spurs must look like a stellar constellation.

The Clippers, meanwhile, are ever mindful of the four-time NBA Champions and feel they have a shot and one veteran of many playoff battles, Kenyon Martin, (whom the Spurs actively pursued in the offseason) has appreciated his young team’s growth.

“The thing about Game 7 of a series, if you didn’t learn anything from Game 1, then you don’t deserve to be here in the first place,” Martin said. “I think guys really, really embrace the moment.”
