Spurs back home for games 3-5

After a bruising loss to the defending champion Miami Heat in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs are back in the confines of home where they were nearly unstoppable with a 35-6 record.

After a 103-84 route in Miami, the Spurs are feeling lucky to be in the position they are in.

“If you would have asked me before heading to Miami, I would have said O.K., I’ll take it,” Manu Ginobili said after splitting the first two games of the series.  “You don’t want to play like this in an N.B.A. finals.”

Spurs take Game 1 in best of 7 with Lakers

It wasn’t a shooting exhibition but it was good enough as the San Antonio Spurs ran away with a 91-79 victory at the AT&T Center. The Lakers shot just 41% and 20% from the three point line. The Lake show also gave up 18 turnovers.

“I thought tonight was the best defense we’ve played in three or four weeks,” head coach Gregg Popovich said. “It came at a good time.”

The Spurs didn’t shoot much better.  By the end of the game they were shooting an erratic 37.6% and 31.8% from the three-point line.  They were led by Tim Duncan (17 points, 10 rebounds 3 steals) and Tony Parker (18 points, 8 assists 3 steals) but Parker could do nothing but praise the return of Manu Ginobili.

“He is a huge key with what we do,  He has been here a long time and really knows our system and tonight he made some timely threes and was our energy off the bench…We are going to need that if we want to go far in the playoffs.”

Spurs rocking the Rodeo Road Trip

Team has posted a 13-1 record in their last 14 games.

The San Antonio Spurs pounded the Chicago Bulls 103-89 en-route to their 2nd consecutive victory and four of their last five contests.  The more impressive thing about this victory is that they took out the Bulls without the Big 3 – Tim, Tony and Manu.

“One would hope that you could play with anybody in your system, but it was a tough challenge for them tonight,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “And I couldn’t be more proud of what they did.”

The team was sparked by Kawhi Leonard who led the team with a career high 26-points.  he was aided by Danny Green’s 18 points.

“The approach is still the same, you know, every game,” Green said. “It starts with Pop. He does a great job of preparing us, tells us what we need to do. We listen to him.”

The Spurs next face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.
