Spurs Clinch Best Record in the NBA

Playoff Tickets now on sale

With a 112-104 victory over the Phoenix Suns Friday Night, the San Antonio Spurs clinched Home Court Advantage throughout the entirety of the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

Coming on the heels of the 2nd game of a back to back, the Spurs could have easily thrown in the towel as they fell behind 35-14 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

“(The Spurs) could have said, ‘Oh, it’s tough, three (games) in four nights, back-to-back, and we’re just going to take a blow tonight,'” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. “But they didn’t do it. Those guys have a lot of pride. I think some of the assistant coaches got on them, ’cause you know I didn’t, I just kind of watched a little bit.”

The Suns, who seemed to have the game in hand up until the third quarter, needed that win to try and clinch a playoff spot and will likely have to win out in order to do so.

“We don’t have much choice; our season is on the line,” PG Eric Bledsoe said.

Spurs clinch Best in the West record

Your San Antonio Spurs have done it yet again and again with the flashiness of an AMC Pacer.  They have not only clinched the Top Seed in the Western Conference, but are again fighting off the “too old” moniker that has followed them for the better part of the last eight years of this magnificent 17 year run.  Former Chicago Bull and Spur Steve Kerr put their success this way:

“In the early years, Pop was much more of a dump-it-inside-to-Duncan-and-David-Robinson kind of coach. Very vanilla,” Kerr said. “Surround the big guys with 3-point shooters and rely on defense. You have to note that Pop has evolved a lot as a coach during his time, and the beauty of it is that he’s had Duncan pretty much the whole time. And of course, Duncan has been so open to change; as Pop has changed, Duncan has changed right along with him.”

The Spurs are now locked into the top seed in the West and will face the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow night and will have the opportunity to finish the season with only 19 losses.  Be sure to get your tickets to the game.

Parker hurt against Grizz, Out for Timberwolves

Tony Parker’s exit early in the first quarter of the game against the Memphis Grizzlies did not slow the momentum for the rolling San Antonio Spurs as they defeated the Grizz 112-92 Sunday evening.  Parker took a hard fall and exited with back spasms and did not return.  He finished with 10 points and an assist in nine minutes.

“They’re going to MRI his back tomorrow,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “I’m not a doctor, I don’t know.”

Kawhi Leonard matched his career high in points with 26 which were matched by Manu Ginobili’s own 26, his season high and Tim Duncan added 13 points as the Spurs bounced back from their streak-ending loss to Oklahoma.

“Wins are wins, but all of us want to be the last team standing,” Popovich said. “That’s all that’s really important to about six, or seven, or eight teams.”

The Spurs next face the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road tonight and their next home game will be Friday April 11th against the Phoenix Suns.  Great Seats are still available!
