Spurs extend streak to seven games

Of the past seven games the Spurs have won, five were against playoff contenders and one was the league leading Golden State Warriors who brought with them the best defense in the NBA only it wasn’t last night.  Kawhi Leonard had his way with the Warriors, and after Coach Pop put him on Stephen Curry, who reeled off 13 straight points, Curry didn’t score again.

“Kawhi was phenomenal, he was the best player on the floor,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “It was Kawhi’s night.”

“He’s playing with more patience. He knows the shots are going to come, so he doesn’t have to force and keep looking for his moment. We’re not dumb. We’re going to look for him. We need him to score like that. He understands that now,” Spurs Guard Manu Ginobili told ESPN’s Michael Wallace.

The Spurs are jelling at the perfect time and the game against the Warriors put the rest of the NBA on notice as they handed the East leading Warriors their worst loss of the season.

The Spurs hit the road to visit the Oklahoma City Thunder tomorrow night.  The Thunder have lost five of their last six games with their last victory coming against the Phoenix Suns on March 29th.  Be sure to get your tickets and help support your San Antonio Spurs on the road!  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available!

Spurs fall to Jazz

The San Antonio Spurs, in the midst of their annual Rodeo Road Trip, are also in the midst of a three game losing streak that threatens to derail the normally useful Road Trip and turn it into the first losing Rodeo Road Trip ever.

In the game against the Utah Jazz last night, the Spurs (2-4 on the RRT) committed 22 turnovers in  90-81 loss.   Jazz fans, who are beginning to believe in their own French phenom, Rudy Gobert, watched as their club jumped out to a 13-8 lead which quickly ballooned to 11 points highlighted by three Trey Burke buckets and a Gobert alley-oop.

“He’s a long drink of water. He changes shots, blocks shots he does a good job,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of the 7″1″ Gobert.

Between today and Saturday, the Spurs still must face the Trailblazers, the Kings and the Suns.

Spurs fall to Pistons

The Defending NBA Champions have been through this before.  They know that, as the reigning NBA Champs, every team will come after them every night they play.  The Detroit Pistons were no different and managed to escape the confines of the AT&T Center with a 105-104 victory.  The way they did it is what is so surprising.

With the clock down to seven seconds and the Spurs’ Tim Duncan in-bounding the ball, what could go wrong.  Evidently everything.  An errant in bounds pass from Duncan landed into the hands of Brandon Jennings who then weaved his way through the backpedaling Spurs and drained an 11-ft jumper which sank the Spurs.

“We are getting better,” Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said. “If you stay in there, sometimes you get a break. We had a very good break at the end. We got lucky at the end. Our resolve to stay in the game right down to the last few seconds was huge.”

Spurs fans also saw the return of Point Guard Tony Parker, who missed the past five games due to a strained left hamstring, although Coach Popovich only allowed him to play 17 minutes.

“He wanted to play, but I’m being conservative,” coach Gregg Popovich said. “He had 13 minutes. That’s good after sitting out as long as he did; make sure he doesn’t re-injure the thing.”
