Spurs remain undefeated @ home after routing Jazz

The San Antonio Spurs, the NBA’s most productive team, let their bench help clean up with 70 points in a 123-98 whipping of former rival Utah Jazz.  Tim Duncan led all starters with 18 points on 8-13 shooting while Kawhi Leonard chipped in 15 and David west 14.

“We’re going through the process of trying to get better every game,” said Spurs forward David West, who had season highs in points (18) and rebounds (13). “Continue to protect our home court and continue to focus on our defense. Regardless of who plays, we’re trying to make sure that we attempt to make it perfect. Even though perfection is not a possibility, we’re still looking to achieve it.”

“We’re eventually going to have a letdown,” veteran reserve Manu Ginobili said. “We’re pros, we shouldn’t. We have to fight hard to take every minute, every possession seriously. Considering that the goal is not to win today, but to get better for when it counts in four months. We still have margin for improvement.”

The Spurs will try to keep their home streak intact when the visiting New York Knicks take the court tomorrow night at the AT&T Center.

Spurs rematch with Rockets this Saturday

After securing their 19th straight home victory with a 112-79 beat down of the Phoenix Suns last night, the Spurs will set their sites back onto the Houston Rockets who took a 88-84 victory from the Spurs last Friday.

LaMarcus Aldridge led the Spurs against the Suns with 21 points and 12 rebounds; his 10th double double of the year.  Manu Ginobili, who came off the bench for five points and three assists and three steals in 17 minutes, put the game and the streak into perspective.

“Yeah for sure (the winning streak is impressive),” Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said. “It’s not that we care about the record, but we know we’ve been very successful (at home) and we haven’t given away any games at home. On the road, we gave away a couple, but the most important thing with that kind of record is that we have feeling that we can do so many things better. That’s a great situation because we know we can improve a lot.”

Spurs face Timberwolves tonight

After bouncing back from a loss to the Houston Rockets with a thumping of the Denver Nuggets, the San Antonio Spurs get back to business tonight when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs, still undefeated at home, face a Timberwolves squad that has won only 12 games thus far.  Defensively the Spurs have been led by The Klaw, Kawhi Leonard who is holding his opponents to 37.8% shooting against him.  Tonight Leonard will be tasked to guard the T’Wolves leading scorer, Andrew Wiggins, who is averaging 20 ppg, but against Leonard only 10.8 on 29.2% shooting.

“It’s the same thing every night for me, just depends on the match-up,” Leonard explained. “Just having the mindset of playing defense every night helps me.”
