Spurs reign Thunder down on Oklahoma

Kawhi Leonard growing into “Go-To Player”

The reigning and defending NBA Champions have put the league on notice.  We will not go silently into the night.  Leading the way into the playoffs is the reigning and defending NBA Finals MVP, Kawhi Leonard who has simply been on fire over a two week stretch.

“He’s been absolutely amazing,” teammate Tim Duncan said. “He’s on a tear right now, and we’re riding him. He’s not doing it the wrong way. He’s taking great shots and continuing to be unselfish, but he’s absolutely being aggressive. That’s what we need from him.”

Leonard matched his career high 26 for the second night in a row as the Spurs blew by the struggling and injured Thunder 113-88.

“No matter how you slice it, it’s not a fair fight,” Head Coach Gregg Popovich said after the game. “Nobody’s going to give back the win. We’re going to take the win. I thought we played well, but you feel badly. You see Kevin in that chair out there and the other guys that are hurt and it’s not a fair fight.”

Fair fight or not, the Spurs are the hottest team in the NBA and the league has been put on notice.  The Houston Rockets certainly know what is happening South of their fair city as the two teams prepare to battle tonight at the AT&T Center and Friday in Houston.

“They’re a good team playing very well right now,” Rockets Coach Kevin McHale said of the Spurs. “They’re the defending champions and they’re healthy and on a roll. It will be a great test for us, especially in San Antonio. They just got done clobbering the Golden State Warriors there. They’re playing well. I watched the game and they’re doing what the Spurs do.”+

Spurs win sixth in a row

The San Antonio Spurs have quietly reeled off six straight victories with their next nine games a mix bag of competitive teams.   Last night, the Spurs took on the Toronto Raptors at home and took early control of the game surging out to as much as a 26 point lead before the Raptors made it competitive.

The home crowd was thrown a scare as Tim Duncan suffered from a slightly hyper-extended elbow after Tiago Splitter landed on him late in the game.

“I don’t want to take away from the win, it was a great win against a great team, but we should have finished the game before,” Parker said after the game.

Parker, who had 22 points and nine assists also lamented about his partner in crime, Timmy D.

“They told us right away (about Tim’s injury) it was not big, so maybe half a second (of anxiety),” Parker said.

The Spurs (40-23) next face the Cleveland Cavaliers (41-25) tomorrow night.  Great seats and affordable tickets are still available so get yours today!

Spurs drop game in Phoenix, prep for Heat

Five major components did not travel with the San Antonio Spurs in their contest against the Phoenix Suns.  Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Coach Popovich did not travel with the team.  Pop is sick and the team is resting Duncan and Ginobili while Kawhi Leonard (eye infection), Tiago Splitter (calf strain) and Patty Mills (rotator cuff) are all recovering from injury.

Suns owner Robert Sarver took to the microphone with two minutes and change left and apologized for the lack of Defending Champion Stars present and said that if fans would send in ticket stubs, they would receive a free gift from the team.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are flying back to the Alamo City to prepare to take on the defending Eastern Conference Champion Miami Heat.   Plenty of great seats and cheap tickets are still available so be sue to get yours now and support the Defending NBA Champion Spurs!
