Duncan eclipses another record in win over Pelicans

The San Antonio Spurs work collectively as a team so when one member charts an accomplishment, there had better be a win behind it or it will be overlooked.  So when Tim Duncan passed NBA legend and former Washington Bullet (now Wizards) to move into 10th place in all time rebounding, oh and the other thing, tying  Karl Malone for 5th all time in double-doubles,  in the slim victory over the Pelicans mattered more.

There was Tim Duncan, now 10th all time rebounder and 5th all time double-doubler tipping in the go ahead basket with .7 seconds remaining.  With Boris Diaw inbounding, Duncan, draped by Pelicans, flipped a shot into the bucket taking the game into the fourth overtime game in recent weeks.

“If you don’t get up for the Spurs, it’s tough,” New Orleans forward Anthony Davis said. “They’re a championship-caliber team. They bring it every night. That makes you put out your best performance and that’s just what we try to do when we play them.”

In overtime, the Spurs fell behind by six early on but the Spurs battled back off of two Manu buckets and then Tim Duncan was at the line.  The first bucket went in giving the Spurs a two point advantage.  Duncan missed the second on purpose forcing the Pelicans’ to lob a last second shot but to no avail.   The Spurs walk out with a 95-93 victory.

Rodeo Road Trip looking really good right now

The defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs have struggled this season with a rash of injuries to a number of players.  Their 19-13 record is representative of that.   They did get a boost when Guard Patty Mills returned to the floor in a 106-110 victory over the Houston Rockets Sunday evening.  Mills had eight points, all in the final quarter of the game.

“His energy, just his activity it was contagious,” San Antonio forward Tim Duncan said. “It was great for us; brought a huge spark to the team.”

The Spurs annual Rodeo Road Trip may just be what the Spurs need as they have normally done well on the nine game excursion from the confines of the AT&T Center.  the Rodeo Road Trip begins February 8th.

The Spurs will face the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow in Memphis at the FedEx Forum.  Spurs fans, get your tickets now and help show your support on the road!

Spurs face Nets tonight

The defending Champions Spurs (13-4) are on the road visiting the Brooklyn Nets (7-9) at the Barclays Center tonight.  The Nets are coming off a 98-93 victory over the New York Knicks Tuesday evening.  The Spurs are coming off a 109-103 victory over the winless Philadelphia 76er’s in which both Tim Duncan and Tony Parker did not play.  The go to guy (and according to Coach Pop, he needs to play a bigger role) was Kawhi Leonard who notched his fourth 20 point game this season with 26 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

“We’re trying to loosen up a bit and give him more of a green light,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said.

Former Spurs Assistant turned Philly head coach Brett Brown had his hands full trying to keep his former team down and were competitive for most of the game.

“The first half was not played with much energy,” Brown said. “I’ve seen it with our guys. We play the Spurs, we’re sort of star struck for a second. We had no juice, no energy.”
