Spurs take first game of opening series

The San Antonio Spurs came out of Game One of the 2014 NBA Playoffs with a 90-85 victory behind veteran point guard Tony Parker’s 20 points and nine assists and Tim Duncan’s 10 rebounds.

The Mavericks came out of the gate sluggish but by the beginning of the fourth quarter had built a nice 10-point lead.  Then the Spurs woke up and went on a 19-4 run and held Dallas scoreless for more than seven minutes.   The normally steady Zach Randolph was hounded by the Spurs defense and was a dismal 1-8 in 28 minutes holding him well below his regular season average 19.7 PPG shooting better than 51%.

“It was just one of them nights,” Randolph said after the game. “I’ve been double-teamed the whole season. A lot of my shots were off. I didn’t get as good a look as I wanted to. It was just the rhythm of the game. I’ve got to be better, as I told my teammates. I’ve got to be better for them.”

For PG Tony Parker, this was the beginning of fulfillment of a promise he made to Tim Duncan after losing in game 7 of the 2013 NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat.

“I promised to him that we will go back, go back to The Finals and get an opportunity to win the whole thing,” Parker said in May. “I’m trying to do my best, trying to be aggressive every night, and I think everybody on the team, we really wanted to do it for him.”

Let the games continue!  Game two is scheduled for Wednesday April 23rd at the AT&T Center.  Great seats and tickets remain.  Get yours now before they’re all gone!

Parker hurt against Grizz, Out for Timberwolves

Tony Parker’s exit early in the first quarter of the game against the Memphis Grizzlies did not slow the momentum for the rolling San Antonio Spurs as they defeated the Grizz 112-92 Sunday evening.  Parker took a hard fall and exited with back spasms and did not return.  He finished with 10 points and an assist in nine minutes.

“They’re going to MRI his back tomorrow,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “I’m not a doctor, I don’t know.”

Kawhi Leonard matched his career high in points with 26 which were matched by Manu Ginobili’s own 26, his season high and Tim Duncan added 13 points as the Spurs bounced back from their streak-ending loss to Oklahoma.

“Wins are wins, but all of us want to be the last team standing,” Popovich said. “That’s all that’s really important to about six, or seven, or eight teams.”

The Spurs next face the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road tonight and their next home game will be Friday April 11th against the Phoenix Suns.  Great Seats are still available!

Spurs end 3-Game Skid

The Sacramento Kings were the perfect anctidote for an ailing San Antonio Spurs squad that dropped games to the Heat, the Rockets and the Bulls.  The Spurs (who began their annual Rodeo Road Trip) were carried on the backs of PF Tim Duncan (23 points/17 rebounds) and Tony Parker (18 points/10 assists) to push back the Kings 95-93.

”It’s huge to start the road trip like that,” Parker said. ”We needed a win. Obviously we were in a little slump with those three losses. We wanted to get back on the right track.”

The night also marked the return of Center Tiago Splitter from injury and the first night on the floor for newly signed former Wizards Point Guard Shannon Brown.

It was great to be back on the court with the guys,” Splitter said. ”I wasn’t that aggressive on offense, but I just tried to help the guys on defense with the coverage and helps. Most importantly, we won, so I’m happy.”

The Spurs face the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York.  Great seats and tickets are still available.
