Spurs happy to be home; learn of Martin manuvers

The San Antonio Spurs completed another successful Rodeo Road Trip finishing at 7-1 after handily  beating the Houston Rockets 104-94.  Now they look to keep their undefeated home record intact as they entertain the Detroit Pistons tonight at the AT&T Center.

“Our guys played well and stayed locked in the whole trip,” said LaMarcus Aldridge, who had 26 points and 16 rebounds against the Rockets. “I think everybody was motivated to finish the trip off right.”

The Spurs also made free agent news signing veteran guard Andre Miller and are still looking hard at Kevin Martin, who was recently released from his contract with Minnesota.  In order to make room for Miller, guard Ray McCallum was waived.  Head Coach Gregg Popovich joked about the signing of Miller.

“He’s gonna be terrible. That’s why we brought him in. He’s got no chance to fit in whatsoever. I can’t believe we did that,” coach Gregg Popovich quipped before continuing.

“His basketball IQ is off the charts,” he added. “What a pro, tough minded, disciplined and he’ll pick up things very quickly. He’s picked up already a lot. He’ll be fine.

Spurs emerge victorious in sloppy affair

EMBARK ON RODEO ROAD TRIP

The San Antonio Spurs survived Kobe’s final appearance and the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night 106-102 at the AT&T Center in what turned out to be a very sloppy game for the Silver and Black…but it was hard not to just watch the magnificence of Kobe.  To some of the Spurs vets, it had that old time rivalry feel and the sidelines even included a music superstar not known for Spurs games, Selena Gomez, who was obviously rooting for the Silver and Black.

“I thought it was great,” San Antonio point guard Tony Parker said. “It was a great game, fans were into it. It felt a little bit like the old days in the playoffs, Spurs and the Lakers.”

Even Coach Popovich, who acknowledged the sloppy game, was caught watching Bryant.

“It was a pretty sloppy game from our perspective,” Coach Popovich said. “And you hate to think it’s because they had an easy time last night [against the Mavericks], but you wonder about it and you talk about it. It’s the NBA and everybody comes to play and everybody comes to win. It’s all the same stuff every night. You’ve got to execute, and we didn’t for a lot of the game, and [LA] was fired up. It was a great night for Kobe, which is thrilling to me because I think he’s great. But now, we can enjoy the Dallas win. Losing tonight would’ve taken that away, so we’re glad it came out the way it did.”

The Spurs embark on their annual Rodeo Road Trip in which they will face the Heat, the Magic, the Clippers, the Lakers, Suns, Kings, Jazz, Rockets before returning home to the AT&T Center on March 2nd for a game against the Detroit Pistons.

Mavs to host streaking Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have set another mark in franchise history by moving past the 1977-78 Portland Trailblazers record of 27 straight wins at home after beating the New Orleans Pelicans 110-97 at the AT&T Center last night.  The team was led by newcomer LaMarcus Aldridge who exploded for 36 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

“The ball has been going in,” Aldridge said. “I’m taking the shots and making them. Playing more confident and more like myself and I think that the team has fed off that energy.”

The big man’s play has come on at a time when Superstar Tim Duncan has missed multiple games but there is no argument that Duncan’s presence is sorely missed in the middle.

“LaMarcus is feeling more and more comfortable all the time as the season progresses,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. “I thought he was magnificent on both ends. Anthony (Davis) got three points in the fourth quarter, and LaMarcus did a great job on him. So, I thought he was special.”

The Spurs will travel down the IH-10 corridor for a meeting against in-state rivals The Dallas Mavericks tomorrow night at American Airlines Arena.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and lets cheer on your Spurs in Big D!
