Spurs and Mavericks hook up tonight

The San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard was an absolute monster last night with a remarkable line of 11 of 18 from the floor for & 1-2 from the three point line for 24 points, 13  rebounds, four assists and four steals against the Phoenix Suns.

“Kawhi Leonard was spectacular on both ends of the court,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.

“Kawhi is one of those guys defensively, he gets after it,” Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek said. “When he’s around the ball you’ve got to be strong with it and you’ve got to be able to get rid of it without getting it knocked away.”

For the incoming Mavericks, they have lost their last two games to the Thunder and Grizzlies, both on the road.  The loss to the Grizzlies taken particularly hard.

“I feel like we’re beating ourselves right now,” said Mavs guard Raymond Felton

“This is one of the better defensive teams in the league,” coach Rick Carlisle said of the Grizzlies. “Tomorrow we’re playing the best defensive team in the league [Spurs], by percentage and by numbers. We have to do better, and we will.”

Spurs drop game to Suns

No matter how much Spurs fans wanted their beloved Silver & Black to go undefeated, it was inevitable that it was not going to happen.  Better to get that first loss out of the way and the Phoenix Suns accommodated the Spurs with four point guards in the final minutes of the game to win 89-94.

“I think it puts a lot of pressure on teams with who they’re going to guard,” Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. “All those guys just turned it up defensively and that’s what we need.”

The Spurs will host the Atlanta Hawks this Wednesday.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours now and get out to support your Defending World Champion Spurs

Bo Outlaw in South Africa for NBA’s ‘Basketball Without Borders’ program

Former Jay standout Bo Outlaw and five other former NBA players are in Johannesburg, South Africa, this weekend to participate in the league’s Basketball Without Borders program.

Outlaw and his group aiming to use sports to help promote social change.

Others who are on the trip include Dikembe Mutombo, Patrick Ewing, Jeff Hornacek, Alonzo Mourning and Dee Brown.

Outlaw had a 14-year career in the NBA that ended when he retired as a member of the Orlando Magic in 2008. He now works as a community ambassador for the Magic in the Central Florida area.

Considering his keen interest in charitable activities and community involvement, it’s no surprise that the NBA chose Outlaw to be a part of this worthwhile project.

He’s the ideal ambassador on this one, as well.
