Mavs to host streaking Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have set another mark in franchise history by moving past the 1977-78 Portland Trailblazers record of 27 straight wins at home after beating the New Orleans Pelicans 110-97 at the AT&T Center last night.  The team was led by newcomer LaMarcus Aldridge who exploded for 36 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

“The ball has been going in,” Aldridge said. “I’m taking the shots and making them. Playing more confident and more like myself and I think that the team has fed off that energy.”

The big man’s play has come on at a time when Superstar Tim Duncan has missed multiple games but there is no argument that Duncan’s presence is sorely missed in the middle.

“LaMarcus is feeling more and more comfortable all the time as the season progresses,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. “I thought he was magnificent on both ends. Anthony (Davis) got three points in the fourth quarter, and LaMarcus did a great job on him. So, I thought he was special.”

The Spurs will travel down the IH-10 corridor for a meeting against in-state rivals The Dallas Mavericks tomorrow night at American Airlines Arena.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and lets cheer on your Spurs in Big D!

Spurs dispose of T’Wolves, host Suns this Wednesday

The San Antonio Spurs kept their undefeated streak at the AT&T Center alive with a 101-95 victory over the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves on a night that saw the rare ejection of Head Coach Gregg Popovich.  The win added the Spurs to a very short list of Western Conference teams to have opened the season with a perfect 18-0 record at home.  Other teams to do it were the 1978 Trailblazers and the 1986 Houston Rockets.

The Spurs were led, in part, by Rookie Boban Marjanovic, who had to step up after LaMarcus Aldridge had a bad night offering only six points to the contest.  Marjanovic was a perfect 7-7 kicking in 17 points and four rebounds in under 15 minutes of play.

“I feel happy because I am part of this win,” Marjanovic said. “In the first half we played like, so-so, and in the second half much better and we showed we are a team. We showed in bad times that we can be a good team.”

“Both stretches he impacted well,” said Spurs assistant Ettore Messina, who took over for Popovich. “Not only with his game, that was a quality game, but also because he got the crowd involved, he got his teammates involved.”

The Spurs will go for home win number 19 tomorrow night against the Phoenix Suns in a Western Conference match.  Plenty of affordable tickets and great seats are still available so be sure to get yours today and be a part of Spurs History!

Spurs hosts Jazz tonight

The San Antonio Spurs will attempt to keep their undefeated streak going tonight as they welcome the Utah Jazz into AT&T Stadium for a Western Conference match up.  The Spurs are coming off a 103-78 throttling of the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night with stifling defense.  The Spurs forced 17 Hawks turnovers and have forced 54 in their last three games.

Of course all of this is nothing to the Head Coach who will never be satisfied with his team’s play, good or bad.

“We had a good night, they had a poor night,” Popovich said after the game. “That’s all it is.”

The Jazz are coming off two straight losses to the Oklahoma City Thunder, 94-90 on Friday and 104-98 yesterday in OKC.

“It hurts,” Utah coach Quin Snyder said. “We were really, really good and we got really tired. It really came down, if we could have gotten a couple of defensive rebounds at the end of the game. We were clearly fatigued in overtime. We’d been able to attack most of the game and just ran out of steam.”

The Jazz will get themselves in trouble if they run out of steam against this Spurs team…ask the Hawks.

Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and help cheer on your San Antonio Spurs!
