Spurs work over Warriors

Team hits the road for a one game before meeting Heat at home

The San Antonio Spurs took full advantage of Golden State injuries to roll over the Warriors 87-79 on Saturday night in the AT&T Center, where the Spurs are still undefeated this season.

The Spurs used their huge front line to bully their way into the paint for easy buckets and a 55-37 rebounding advantage.  The Spurs also bullied Stephen Curry into a 14-point night on 4-18 shooting.

“They’re a great team, they’re the bar in the NBA and it just felt good to win tonight,” Forward LaMarcus Aldridge said.

Aldridge had a game high 26 points and 13 rebounds while the Klaw, Kawhi Leonard chipped in 18 points, 14 rebounds and four assists.

Spurs dismiss Thunder, await Clippers

One of the San Antonio Spurs newest acquisitions, David West, sparked a 4th quarter comeback with three straight buckets to give the Spurs the lead for the first time since the 2nd quarter and eventually the win, their 41st consecutive at home, only the third team in league history to hit that mark.  The win also secured the Southwest Division for the Spurs and they officially clinched home court advantage in the ever important first round of the fast approaching playoffs.

“We’re a humble ballclub,” Forward Kawhi Leonard said. “We just want to get better as each game goes as the season goes on. So, it doesn’t matter who we’re playing. It’s just about us and are we going to execute, are we going to go out and have energy and play defense. We fought through the whole game tonight.”

Leonard had 26 points in the contest and was a focal point of the offense along with LaMarcus Aldridge, who had 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists, a far cry from his first time around against the Thunder.

“I didn’t know my role, I was trying to find shots,” Aldridge said. “I think I took (12) shots that game. So it was very uncomfortable. I thought tonight was night and day for sure.”

The next in line to take a shot at the Spurs home record are the LA Clippers, who are coming off a hard 114-90 loss to LeBron  James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.  They will be followed by the Blazers, the Warriors and the Miami Heat, all playoff bound teams.

“I think it’s important to be playing teams you’re probably going to be playing in the playoffs at some point,” Popovich said. “It’s kind of like a final exam in a way, where you still have time to improve some things.

Spurs happy to be home; learn of Martin manuvers

The San Antonio Spurs completed another successful Rodeo Road Trip finishing at 7-1 after handily  beating the Houston Rockets 104-94.  Now they look to keep their undefeated home record intact as they entertain the Detroit Pistons tonight at the AT&T Center.

“Our guys played well and stayed locked in the whole trip,” said LaMarcus Aldridge, who had 26 points and 16 rebounds against the Rockets. “I think everybody was motivated to finish the trip off right.”

The Spurs also made free agent news signing veteran guard Andre Miller and are still looking hard at Kevin Martin, who was recently released from his contract with Minnesota.  In order to make room for Miller, guard Ray McCallum was waived.  Head Coach Gregg Popovich joked about the signing of Miller.

“He’s gonna be terrible. That’s why we brought him in. He’s got no chance to fit in whatsoever. I can’t believe we did that,” coach Gregg Popovich quipped before continuing.

“His basketball IQ is off the charts,” he added. “What a pro, tough minded, disciplined and he’ll pick up things very quickly. He’s picked up already a lot. He’ll be fine.
